THE WOMAN WHO'S HAIR IS ON FIRE
2018 | Laser cut stainless steel and copper | 16x26x44 cm
A dancer on one leg caught mid-motion, throwing her hair back. Her elaborate hair trails behind leaving a trail of a crumpled copper sheet. She is made of stainless steel interlacing slices, giving volume and structural strength.
CREATION PROCESS
First, the pose was recreated in 3D using DAZ, it was then taken to Zbrush for fine details.
Then using Cinema4D the 3D model was sliced for laser cutting.
Each slice of 2mm stainless steel had slots to accommodate the perpendicular slice. They were delicately TIG welded together, then the 0.1mm thick copper sheet was attached and crumpled to enhance the motion of the piece. The Stainless steel was sanded to remove weld discoloration and the copper was sprayed with lacquer for a lasting salmon-coloured finish.
