A solid block of steel is gradually cut with an oxy-fuel torch, a tool more commonly used for dismantling bridges, ships and skyscrapers than for making sculpture. Unlike conventional metalwork, where precision and clean edges are often the goal, here the torch leaves behind scars, cavities and unexpected textures. The molten surface behaves almost autonomously, flowing where it pleases and introducing variations that cannot be fully predicted or repeated. In this sense, the process requires trust in the material and responding to what emerges. As the steel is reduced, the figure gradually reveals itself. Features appear, disappear and shift, while the surface records the process through layers of heat, erosion and oxidation. Character is not manufactured, but uncovered. The result is a rough, weathered figure with a presence that feels as though it has been unearthed rather than made.
