THE PHYSICAL IMPOSSIBILITY OF MAKING ART FOR HIPPIES
2018 | Plexyglass, LEDs, Steel | 300x220x200 cm
The installation is based on one of the most significant works in contemporary art: "The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living" by Damien Hirst 1991.
Designed specifically for a light festival open to the masses, I named this piece: “The Physical Impossibility of Making Art for Hippies”
I wanted to see if there is room for depth and layered meaning in festival art? Will anyone recognize the source of inspiration? Is it enough to be cool and interactive?
It is by far the most complex project I have created.
Learning two worlds that were completely foreign to me; design and fabrication of kinetic art, as well as LED lighting.
CREATION PROCESS
This complex art installation involved 3D sculpting and precise slicing using a laser cutter. Design and fabrication of kinetic mechanisms. The LED lighting involved electrical assembly, mapping, and projection of colorful animations.
the latter two were my first attempts in the field.
